The Puritas Experience
Design:
It's in the classic style and studied proportions of the solid hardwood frame. It's the slat system that is optimized for support and breathability. You see it in the hand-worked details and you appreciate the easy, tool free and solid assembly. It is as beautiful as it is functional and you rest easier knowing that your bedroom furniture was made with thoughtfulness and good intention.
Craftsmanship:
Each piece is made for you one at at time. This is not factory furniture.
We use the finest North American hardwoods, taking the time to hand pick each board, celebrating the woods natural character and creating visual harmony in the final appearance of the piece.
Whether it's the time-tested traditional joinery techniques, or our hand-rubbed finishes, we take the time to do things right.
We rejoice in the experience of a paper thin curl of wood as it shoots out of a sharp hand plane and believe that hand-made things have a certain quality that recommends them above relentless technological perfection.
At Puritas, we are proud to say that fine craftsmanship is at the heart of what we do.
Sustainability:
Perched on the edge of the wilderness in the foot hills of Mt. Shasta in far Northern California (yes, that is the PFC shop in the lower right corner of the photo), Puritas Furniture Company is a small, low impact, family owned woodworking and design studio immersed in and inspired by the beauty of the natural world. I believe it is a revolutionary and deeply caring act to support local and regional craftspeople and the communities in which we all live. I strive to provide you with beautifully designed and finely crafted hardwood furniture while keeping the footprint low and leaving the factories, overseas shipping, and the politics out of it.
The classic designs of Puritas furniture will never go out of style and the quality materials and careful craftsmanship mean your furniture can last a lifetime.
My hardwood lumber comes from carefully managed North American forests from producers who follow the strictest standards in order to ensure long term viability through sustainable harvesting and management practices. My native west coast softwoods are sourced from carefully managed private lands and I offer reclaimed and salvaged wood options as well.
I promote the use of non-toxic finishes and healthy environments with our preferred finish being an all-natural, zero-voc combination of beeswax, linseed oil, and pine resin that is not only non-toxic during application and for the end user, it is also easier on the environment in it's raw ingredients and production.
I have active waste reduction and recycling programs, and all of our power is provided by renewable sources through Pacific Power’s Blue Sky Energy Program.
Sustainability is the soul of our operation. Puritas is committed to a peaceful and verdant future for all.
